Any OBOA Member in good standing

Each Entry consists of an entry form, a single image, per entry. To enter, visit; sign in using your OBOA username and password (Bulletin Board Credentials) choose "Make a Entry" Add your Photo and Details.

There is no limit on the number of entries per person. Each entry must comply with the following requirements (the "Photograph Requirements"):
Photographs must be in digital format. All digital files must be 20 megabytes or smaller, must be in JPEG or JPG format, and must be at least 1,600 pixels and must be 8 ½” W x 11” high max.
Photographs that include sculptures, statues, paintings, and other works of art will be accepted as long as they do not constitute copyright infringement or fraud; entrants must provide a release form as described below in "Release."

The photograph must not, in the sole and unfettered discretion of the OBOA, contain obscene, provocative, defamatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content.
The caption must be complete and accurate, sufficient to convey the circumstances in which the photograph was taken. Disguising or misrepresenting the origin of your content is cause for disqualification.
Watermarks are not acceptable. If the OBOA does not receive a non-watermarked version of the entry, the entry will be disqualified.
All entries must be submitted and received by October 30, 2014 Proof of submission is not proof of receipt. The OBOA reserves the right to examine the original photograph/source material in order to confirm compliance with these rules.

If the photograph contains any material or elements that are not owned by the entrant and/or which are subject to the rights of third parties, and/or if any persons appear in the photograph, the entrant is responsible for obtaining, prior to submission of the photograph, any and all releases and consents necessary to permit the exhibition and use of the photograph in the manner set forth in these Official Rules without any compensation. If any person appearing in any photograph is under the age of majority in their state/province/territory of residence the signature of a parent or legal guardian is required on each release.
Each entrant must be provide a signed release from all persons who appear in the photograph submitted, authorizing Sponsor and its licensees ("Authorized Parties") to reproduce, distribute, display, and create derivative works of the entry in connection with the Contest and promotion of the Contest, in any media now or hereafter known. Failure to provide such releases may result in disqualification at any time during the Contest and selection of an alternate winner.
Similarly, each entrant must provide a signed written license from the copyright owner of any sculpture, artwork, or other copyrighted material that appears in the photograph entry, authorizing any Authorized Party to reproduce, distribute, display, and create derivative works of the entry in connection with the Contest and promotion of the Contest, in any media now or hereafter known. Failure to provide such releases may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner.

The person with the winning photo will receive an OBOA Spring jacket. (Size to be determined by winner)

Judging will be done by OBOA board Members and staff.

By entering this Contest, all entrants agree to release, discharge, and hold harmless Ontario Building Officials Association and its partners, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising agencies, agents and their employees, officers, directors, and representatives from any claims, losses, and damages arising out of their participation in this Contest or any Contest-related activities and the acceptance and use, misuse, or possession of any prize awarded hereunder.
The OBOA assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, or delay in operation or transmission; communications line failure; theft or destruction of or unauthorized access to Contest entries or entry forms; or alteration of entries or entry forms. The OBOA is not responsible for any problems with or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any email entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website, human errors of any kind, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to entrants' or any other persons' computers related to or resulting from participation, uploading or downloading of any materials related to in this Contest.

If for any reason the Contest is not capable of running as planned, due to infection by computer virus, bugs, worms, trojan horses, denial of service attacks, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of OBOA that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest, OBOA reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual(s) who tamper with the entry process, and/or to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Contest.

Entrants are responsible for complying with these Official Rules.

Entrants must adhere to the following photo submission guidelines:

Only digital photo submissions will be accepted. No printed photos will be accepted. Photos must be submitted electronically as a high resolution image, and at least 1600 pixels wide (vertical format preferred). The maximum file size is 20 MB. All photos must be in .jpg format. Photos must be in colour only, and must be appropriate for printing as a 8.5” x 10.5” inch vertical print, as winning photos will be printed and featured on the cover of the December 2014 Journal.
Permitted digital modifications:

  • Images may be cropped and rotated as necessary as long as the rectangular format is maintained and the size is within the specifications set out above
  • Images may be resized as long as the aspect ratio is maintained
  • Red-eye removal and spot editing
  • Use of filters to sharpen, soften, blur, despeckle or remove noise
  • Use of corrective functions to improve the natural appearance of the image, such as levels, contrast, brightness, curves, intensity, tone, hue, saturation, lightness, value, colour balance and tint

Not Permitted:

  • No borders or frames may be added to images
  • No watermarks, signatures or copyright notices may be added to images
  • Artistic filters are not permitted

Only original photos that have never previously been submitted for entry into a contest or awarded a prize in a previous contest are eligible to win a Prize.
Photos that do not meet the guidelines set out above shall be disqualified and removed from the Contest.
The OBOA reserves the right to disqualify any photo that contains any content that is, in the sole discretion of the OBOA, inappropriate or offensive, or that was submitted by an ineligible entrant or otherwise not in compliance with these Rules and Regulations.
