Public Consultation: Equivalency Assessments for Building Officials 

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing is launching a public consultation on proposed changes to Ontario’s Building Code to address a labour shortage of building officials, which is especially evident in northern Ontario.  

The proposed regulatory changes would allow the ministry to conduct equivalency assessments for building officials from Manitoba to determine if an applicant’s knowledge of Ontario’s Building Code is equivalent to the ministry’s technical exams.  This will provide suitably qualified applicants with a pathway to practise in Ontario and help address building official shortages in northern Ontario communities within close proximity to the Manitoba border.
